Sophia Tsoumaki is a creative photograper based in Athens,Greece. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as, a Certification in Communication from the Panteion University of Athens and she is an Integrative psychotherapist/Trauma & PTSD Therapist, Family Constellations Facilitator and C-IAYT Yoga Therapist.
Photography is her passion and a tool for self awareness since her student years. At age 22 she studied photography and became an active member of “Photo Circle”, a very well-known Art Photography Association in Athens, guided by art photographer Plato Rivelis.
From 1988 - 2000 she collaborated with different radio stations, music and women’ s magazines in Athens, working both as a photographer and a journalist. Many well known contemporary musicians, like Wim Mertens, Laurie Anderson, Marianne Faithful, Astor Piazzola, Diamanda Galas, Billy Bragg, Michael Nyman, Paul Roland, Blaine L.Reininger among others, were photographed (some of them where also interviewed) by her at that time. Photos of hers have been published in the magazines she collaborated with and presented in group and solo exhibitions. She is also a finalist of Internationa Photo competitions Open Calls.
In July 2021 she self published her first photobook titled ‘Light Matters’.
The central focus of her photographic work is the individual and a more empathetic and poetic way of relating to self, life, nature and the multifaceted human experience.
